Event attendees serve themselves food from a buffet-style table

Food is the heart of any event, fostering connection and building community. When planning your event menu, it’s essential to consider not just the nutritional value but also the variety to ensure everyone has a dish they can enjoy. Here are some crucial tips to keep in mind:

  1. Food sensitivities affect more than 10% of people. The most common allergens are milk, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, soy, wheat, shellfish, fish, and sesame. The best way to collect dietary information for your event is privately, through your event’s registration page. This allows guests to comfortably share their needs without feeling singled out.
  2. Once you’ve gathered the dietary information, look for patterns that can help shape your menu. For example, if multiple guests are gluten-free, opt for a grilled chicken dish rather than something breaded.
  3. Give yourself plenty of time to discuss your menu and dietary needs in advance of the event. Planning ahead provides flexibility to adjust meal quantities and accommodate any changes that may arise.
  4. Start planning with your Event Manager as soon as possible. They can provide valuable insights and help you coordinate to ensure that all dietary needs are met while still providing all guests an amazing catering experience.

Fall Wedding Spotlight: Vivianne and Brandon Kittle

October 11, 2024
Ceremony and Reception Venue: University of Michigan League Ballroom
Cocktail Hour Venue: Hussey Room & Concourse

Vivianne and Brandon Kittle’s wedding was more than just a ceremony; it was a heartfelt homage to their shared connection with the University of Michigan. Both Michigan natives and alumni, Vivianne and Brandon met as camp counselors in the Wolverine Summer Camps Program. After 11 years of adventures together, they returned to campus to say “I do.”

Choosing the Michigan League for their autumn wedding was a natural decision. The couple added personal touches that made the day uniquely their own, including using a cookbook as their guestbook to showcase Brandon’s passion for cooking and gifting guests with favorite recipes.

The reception was a perfect blend of elegance and fun, featuring a Twilight-themed escort card display and a rave-inspired music set. One of the most memorable moments was their grand entrance. DJ Derek from TheBlockParty had everyone twirl their dinner napkins and cheer, creating an atmosphere of excitement. Their first dance included a dramatic lift that became an instant hit with the guests.

Vivianne and Brandon’s wedding at the Michigan League blended elegance, tradition, and love—a perfect reflection of who they are and the journey they’ve shared. We were honored to be a part of their special day!

Several volunteer workers holding shovels while planting trees

In today’s hyper-connected world, our constant interaction with digital devices can negatively impact sleep quality, increase stress levels, and contribute to mental fatigue. Taking time to unplug allows your brain to rest and recharge, leading to a healthier, more balanced life.

Strategies for a successful digital detox include:

  • Pursuing Passions and Hobbies: Dedicate time to activities you love, whether it’s reading, painting, or cooking.
  • Setting Specific Times to Check Emails and Social Media: Create designated periods for online activity to prevent constant engagement.
  • Designating Screen-Free Zones at Home: Establish areas in your home where digital devices are not allowed, such as the bedroom or dining room.
  • Engaging in Outdoor Activities: Spend time outside to reconnect with nature and enjoy physical exercise.
  • Practicing Mindfulness and Meditation: These practices can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
  • Prioritizing Real-World Interactions: Focus on building and maintaining face-to-face relationships.
  • Using Apps or Tools: Take advantage of tools like Freedom or Brick which are designed to help you set screen time limits and reminders.

By implementing these simple tips, you can embrace the practice of digital detox and discover a more balanced, fulfilling life in 2025.
